OpenAI published a framework for tracking, investigating, and disclosing model misalignment, with six reports on unexpected or concerning behavior from training or evaluation over the last six months. The reports cover concealing mistakes in GPT-5.6 Sol summaries, using an exposed API key, uploading files to cite them, and sharing files through public hosts or an internal repository.
Why it matters: ChatGPT, Codex, and API users now have a public log of specific misalignment incidents and a process for future reports, including cases not yet fully explained or mitigated. OpenAI says it does not believe alignment and monitoring are solved well enough to keep scaling at maximum speed for much longer.

Anthropic merges Claude Cowork into chat
On September 16, Anthropic said Claude Cowork and chat are merging into one Claude, so users no longer pick a mode before a task. Claude Docs and Claude Slides launched in beta the same day, Claude Design now works inside conversations, and the unified experience is rolling out to Pro and Max on web, desktop, and mobile over the coming weeks.

Google ships Gemini 3.8 Live models
On September 15, Google introduced Gemini 3.8 Live and Gemini 3.8 Live Extended Thinking for real-time voice dialogue. Both add upgraded reasoning, near real-time visual understanding, automatic detection for 97 languages, and background tool calling. 3.8 Live is rolling out in Search Live; Extended Thinking is in the Gemini API, Google AI Studio, and Gemini Live.

Mistral models power Firefox Smart Window

Mistral will power Smart Window for users in France and North America, with the United Kingdom and Germany expected later this year. Perplexity publishes CobbleDB, plans to open-source it

Grok added as a Microsoft Copilot model option
On September 12, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella posted that more model choice is coming to Copilot and welcomed Grok. Elon Musk quoted that post and wrote that Grok is available in Microsoft Copilot.
Why it matters: Copilot users may be able to pick Grok as a model. The two posts did not name which Grok model, which Copilot products, or whether the option is on by default.

Grok Bot Galaxy livestream starts September 15
Elon Musk wrote "Watch a company being built live with @Grok @Bot!" quoting a SpaceXAI 3-day livestream from September 15 where three people try to build a product and company from scratch with Grok Bot, including live demos from the Grok Bot team. @grok said three people, with Grok Bot as the team, would attempt a full company in 72 hours live starting Sept 15.
Why it matters: From September 15, anyone can watch Grok Bot used in a live 72-hour company-building exercise. Access, pricing and features of Grok Bot itself do not change because of the stream.
Musk's 2026-09-13 post showed 16,778 likes, 1,729 reposts and 20,183,977 views. @grok replied in-thread the same day confirming a 72-hour live build from Sept 15.
