Overview
Qwen App is Alibaba's consumer assistant, and it is a different kind of product from the Qwen models that get benchmarked. The distinguishing feature is that it finishes tasks. Alibaba's own announcement describes quick commerce ordering through Taobao Instant Commerce with "payment completed directly within the conversation", travel planning through Fliggy with routing from Amap, and deep integration across Taobao, Alipay, Fliggy and Amap so users complete tasks "without switching between applications". Task Assistant, in invite-only beta, extends that to making phone calls, planning itineraries and processing documents.
The scale is the other half of the story, and it needs care because two different figures circulate. Alibaba's January 2026 release says Qwen App "surpassed 100 million monthly active users within two months of its release" following a public beta launch on 17 November. Its March 2026 release says something broader: "consumer-facing Qwen surpassed 300 million monthly active users across all platforms as of February". Those are different denominators. The 100 million figure is the app; the 300 million figure covers consumer-facing Qwen across every surface Alibaba counts. Treat any single number quoted without that distinction as unreliable.
My read: the ecosystem integration is the moat and also the limit. Alibaba states the new agentic features are "now available for public testing in China", which is where Taobao, Alipay, Fliggy and Amap actually matter. Outside that ecosystem you get a competent free assistant without the part that makes it interesting. The web surface at chat.qwen.ai currently presents a logged-out creation view labelled Qwen Studio, running a model shown as Qwen3.7-Plus, leading with image generation and publishing no pricing at all. Alibaba's assistant is genuinely large and genuinely under-covered in English, and its own web front door does a poor job of explaining what the product is.
