Overview
NotebookLM is Google's research notebook for a set of sources you choose. Google's Help Center documents the same product as Gemini Notebook. You upload files or pull sources in from the web and Google Drive, then chat with that notebook. Answers are grounded in the selected sources and carry inline citations.
Audio Overview lives in the Studio panel. It is a discussion between AI hosts, or a short single-speaker Brief, built from those sources. You pick a format, a language, and a length. Google says Audio Overviews can be generated in 80+ languages. Interactive mode, where you join the hosts by voice, is English-only, and the Longer length option is English-only.
Studio also turns the same sources into study guides, briefings, and mind maps. A free Google account includes the product, with a cap of 100 notebooks and 50 sources per notebook. Google AI Plus, Pro, and the two Ultra plans raise those caps. Each source is still limited to 500,000 words, or 200 MB for a local upload. Work and school accounts use a separate Workspace edition table, which is not mixed into the consumer caps below.
